The star Alpha Canum Venaticorum, 115 l.y. away. It is a wide double star. The brighter component is an A0 dwarf of magnitude 2.9, the prototype of the Alpha2 Canum Venaticorum variables (magnetic stars with variable spectra) and fluctuates by about 0.1 mag. in a period of 5.5 days. The companion is an F2 dwarf, magnitude 5.6.
