A class of Arthropoda that is no longer recognized, because relationships between its members are considered to be superficial. Members of the Myriapoda are now allotted to the classes Chilopoda (centipedes), Diplopoda (millipedes), Pauropoda (small, soft-bodied animals resembling millipedes but not closely related to them), and Symphyla (small, fast-moving animals that resemble centipedes but have mouthparts more like those of insects).
