单词 nuclide
释义
nuclide

Physics
  • A type of atom characterized by its atomic number and its neutron number. An isotope refers to a member of a series of different atoms that have the same atomic number but different neutron numbers (e.g. uranium–238 and uranium–235 are isotopes of uranium), whereas a nuclide refers only to a particular nuclear species (e.g. the nuclides uranium–235 and plutonium–239 are fissile). The term is also used for a type of nucleus.

Chemistry
  • A type of atom as characterized by its atomic number and its neutron number. An isotope refers to a series of different atoms that have the same atomic number but different neutron numbers (e.g. uranium–238 and uranium–235 are isotopes of uranium), whereas a nuclide refers only to a particular nuclear species (e.g. the nuclides uranium–235 and plutonium–239 are fissile). The term is also used for the type of nucleus.

Chemical Engineering
  • An atomic species in which all the atoms have the same atomic number and mass number, such as carbon-14. An isotope refers to a series of different atoms that have the same atomic number but different neutron numbers, such as uranium-235 and uranium-238.

Geology and Earth Sciences
  • A widely used alternative name for an atom. The composition of any nuclide can be given by means of the chemical symbol of the element, the mass number written as a superscript, and the atomic number written as a subscript. For example, 146C is an atom of carbon (C) having six protons (the atomic number) and 14 nucleons (the mass number).
