An operations centre that receives all the process plant information. The information includes details of temperature, pressure, flows, levels in process vessels, and concentrations, etc. and is often presented on an array of computer display screens that represent the process. Process alarms indicate significant deviations from the expected values, and are monitored by process control room operators. The control rooms in hazardous chemical plants are often located a safe distance from the plant itself and are also used as a safe place of refuge. On offshore oil and gas platforms, the control room is shielded and protected from fire and explosion.
