specializing in the use of splines and machine learning methods. An undergraduate at Cornell U, her doctorate was supervised by Parzen at Stanford U. Since 1967 she has been on the faculty at U Wisconsin, Madison. In 1994 she was the IMS Neyman Lecturer and also the Parzen Prize winner. In 2003 she was the IMS Wald Lecturer. She has been elected a member of the NAS and a fellow of the AAAS. In 2019, she won the Rao Prize.
