A capacitor component consisting of a small ceramic dielectric with the two contacting electrodes placed directly onto the dielectric, at each end of the component. They are of small size: standard sizes are denoted by 0603, 0402, etc., which refers to the length and width dimensions, respectively, in millimetres. Chip capacitors have no connecting leads and are soldered directly onto the printed circuit board using surface mount technology. These components therefore have much lower parasitic inductance and capacitance than similar-valued leaded components, and are used primarily for high-frequency or high-precision circuits.
