单词 mouse
释义
mouse

Science and Technology
  • A small, nocturnal rodent that has small, rounded ears, a pointed snout, and a long, scaly tail. Old World mice belong to the family Muridae, which includes rats and comprises more than 1000 species. The house mouse (Mus musculus) originated in dry areas of Eurasia and has spread worldwide; pet mice and laboratory mice are descended from this species. The European field or wood mouse (Apodemus sylvaticus) is not closely related. New World mice (family Cricetidae) are more closely related to hamsters and gerbils and include the white-footed deer mouse (Peromyscus leucopus), which resembles the European field mouse.

Computer
  • A pointing device that is moved by hand around a flat surface: the movements in the x- and y-directions on the surface are communicated to a computer and cause corresponding movements of the cursor on the display. The mouse’s movements are sensed by the rotation of a ball in its base, or by optical sensors.

The mouse has one or more buttons to indicate to the computer the desired function. It is normally connected by cable to the computer or may communicate by means of radio, infrared, or optical signals. Some mice incorporate a finger-operated roller to control scrolling.

Electronics and Electrical Engineering
  • A device that controls the movement of the cursor or pointer on a computer’s display screen. A mouse is a small object that can roll along a flat surface or mat. As the mouse is moved, the pointer on the display screen moves in the same direction. Mice contain at least one button and sometimes as many as three, which can be assigned different functions depending on the program being run. More recently, mice also include a scroll wheel for scrolling through long documents.
