The mathematical expression of the relationship between stellar rotation and the circulation that is induced within the body of the star. It was originally advanced in 1924 by the Swedish astrophysicist Edvard Hugo von Zeipel (1873–1961), and still forms the basis of all studies of the circulation of material within a stellar interior.
