The part of an island arc region that lies between the fore-arc and back-arc basins (or zones). The volcanic-arc zone may consist of an inactive frontal arc composed of older volcanic rocks on the fore-arc side of the active zone. The frontal and active volcanic arcs are also known as the magmatic arc.
