A type of electron tube that is used to produce single images, such as a test pattern, suitable for television broadcasting. It contains an aluminium plate electrode with the desired image printed on it in carbon. The plate is scanned by an electron beam and video signals are produced because of the difference in secondary emission of electrons of aluminium and carbon.
