A European Union project to encourage a wider use of information gathered by Earth-observation satellites. The CEO concentrates on space monitoring for environmental and security purposes. It also works on product development and marketing, doing studies for the shipping industry, agribusiness, environmental protection organizations, and other groups.

The CEO began in 1995 as part of the European Commission's 4th Framework Programme and is now a main project of the Strategy and Systems of Space Applications Unit.
