A combination of seven selected filters from the Vilnius and Geneva systems of photometry (hence VILGEN), used to distinguish peculiar and metal-poor stars. The filters used are U from the Geneva system; P from the Vilnius system; B₁ (Geneva); Y (Vilnius); Z (Vilnius); V (Geneva or UBV); and S (Vilnius).
