It involves heating the metal such as steel and dipping it into molten sodium cyanide. It is used to harden the steel. See case hardening. Geology and Earth Sciences Process by which sedimentary rock particles or fragments are cemented together after deposition. Cementing materials are deposited from the mineral-rich waters that percolate through the open pore space of the rock. The percentage of cement depends on the amount of pore space and on the mud content within a given rock. Geography The binding together of particles by adhesive materials, as in sedimentary rocks.
