A radio observatory at Hoskinstown, New South Wales, 30 km east of Canberra, Australia. It was founded in 1962 and is owned and operated by the University of Sydney. It contains the Molonglo Observatory Synthesis Telescope (MOST), opened in 1981. This is an aperture synthesis telescope that consists of two parabolic reflectors, each 778 m long and 11.6 m wide, oriented east–west, originally one arm of a Mills cross that operated 1965–78. It observes at 0.36 m wavelength. Since 2009, MOST has been converted into a pathfinder instrument for the Square Kilometre Array, called SKA Molonglo Prototype (SKAMP).
