A refining process in which hydrogen and catalysts are used at a relatively low temperature and pressure to produce naphtha, diesel fuel, jet fuel, and high-grade fuel oil. Hydrocracking is used for feedstocks that are particularly difficult to process by catalytic cracking or reforming because they may have a high sulphur content, or contain a high level of polycyclic aromatics or olefins.
