The site of a major battle in 451 ad, reputedly near Châlons-sur-Marne in France, but placed by some nearer Troyes. The Roman general Aetius with a combined force of Romans, Goths, and Burgundians defeated Attila the Hun, forcing his retreat from Gaul. He was expelled from Italy the following year.
