The star Beta Crucis, the second-brightest star in the constellation Crux. It is a B0.5 giant or subgiant 279 l.y. away and a variable of the Beta Cephei type, ranging between magnitudes 1.2 and 1.3 with a period of 5.7 hours. An unofficial alternative name is Becrux.
