A small Canadian Space Agency (CSA) satellite launched on 30 June 2003 carrying a 0.15-m telescope to monitor the tiny brightness variations in stars caused by surface oscillations and also to look for reflected light from any planets that may be orbiting them. In September 2014, CSA transferred ownership of MOST to Microsatellite Systems Canada Inc. MOST has made several significant discoveries, including: that the star Procyon may not oscillate as much as expected; a new class of variable stars known as ‘slowly pulsating B supergiants’; and the detection of transits by exoplanet 55 Cancri of its primary star.
