The formation of micrite by the boring into skeletal carbonate particles by cynanobacteria (blue-green algae), and the subsequent precipitation of micrite within the borings. Micritization can also occur if filamentous endolithic algae (i.e. those within the sediment) coat the grain. See micrite envelope.
