单词 metric system
释义
metric system

Physics
  • A decimal system of units originally devised by a committee of the French Academy, which included J. L. Lagrange and P. S. Laplace, in 1791. It was based on the metre, the gram defined in terms of the mass of a cubic centimetre of water, and the second. This centimetre-gram-second system (see c.g.s. units) later gave way for scientific work to the metre-kilogram-second system (see m.k.s. units) on which SI units are based.

Chemical Engineering
  • A decimal system of units based on the metre, gram, and second for length, mass, and time, respectively. It was originally devised by the French Academy in 1791 that included French mathematicians J. L. Lagrange and P. S. Laplace. The system replaced a base twelve system. The SI system is used widely in scientific work and is based on the metric system and uses the kilogram as the SI unit of mass.
