A radio telescope array in the Karoo region of Northern Cape province, South Africa. It consists of 64 dishes of 13.5 m aperture, 48 of which are in a core area 1 km across, with the remainder in a surrounding area 8 km wide. The full array was opened in 2018 and will eventually work at wavelengths from 0.2 to 52 cm. MeerKAT is a prototype instrument for the Square Kilometre Array.
