Norman Prince of Antioch, the eldest son of Robert Guiscard. He fought for Guiscard against the Byzantine emperor, Alexius Comnenus; after his father’s death he joined the First Crusade and played a prominent part in the capture of the Syrian city of Antioch. He established himself as prince in Antioch but was captured by the Turks and imprisoned for two years. In 1107 he led an expedition against the Byzantine empire and was defeated by Alexius, making peace at the Treaty of Devol (1108).
