The Eurasian wild pig (family Suidae), which is the ancestor of most domesticated pig breeds. It is a stocky pig with thin legs, varying considerably in size across its range, from an average shoulder height in males of 65 cm in southern Europe to 95 cm in eastern Europe; females are slightly smaller. Boars are social, living in groups led by females, inhabit a wide variety of habitats, and are versatile omnivores. They are native to most of Eurasia and North Africa and have been introduced in other regions.
