Any plant that disperses its seeds by the mature upper part drying out and becoming a diaspore, detaching from the root and main stem to blow about in the wind as a tangle of dry leaves and fruits, scattering seeds as it goes. Many unrelated plants use this strategy; they are most common in semi-arid regions.
