A technique for studying the electrical properties of a planetary surface by the reflection of radio waves. If the transmitter and receiver are located at different places, the term ‘bistatic radar’ is used; if in the same place, this is called ‘monostatic radar’. In the study of the Moon with bistatic radar during the Apollo missions, the transmitter was located on the command module orbiting the Moon, while the receiver was located on the Earth.
