A colourless liquid, CCl2=CHCl, b.p. 87°C. It is toxic and nonflammable, with a smell resembling that of chloroform (trichloromethane). It is widely used as a solvent in dry cleaning and degreasing. It is also used to extract oils from nuts and fruit, as an anaesthetic, and as a fire extinguisher.
