who has spent most of his career in the USA. Mallows was educated at UCL, obtaining his PhD (supervised by Johnson) in 1953, and joining the UCL faculty in 1955. In 1960 he moved to the USA, joining the faculty at Princeton U at the invitation of Tukey. His later research took place at AT&T Labs (1987) and Avaya Labs (2000). He was the COPSS Fisher Lecturer in 1997 and the Wilks Award winner of the ASA in 2007.
