One of two species of New World vultures (family Cathartidae), the Andean condor (Vultur gryphus) and California condor (Gymnogyps californianus), each being a very large, broad-winged bird, the Andean condor with a wingspan up to 3 m and weighing up to 15 kg, the California condor with a similar wingspan and weighing up to 10 kg. Both birds forage over large territories in search of carrion.
