1. Maintaining a prescribed relationship between an electrical parameter of one electronic circuit or device and the same or a different parameter of a second device, suitably arranged, when both are subjected to the same stimulus. In particular it is the maintaining of a predetermined frequency relation in ganged circuits, especially a constant difference between the resonant frequencies of two ganged tuned circuits.
2. Maintaining a radar or radio beam set on a target while its position is determined.
3. The formation of unwanted conducting paths on the surface of a dielectric or insulator when it is subjected to a high electric field. Such paths often result from carbonization on the surface.
4. Maintaining the stylus of a pick-up accurately within the grooves of a gramophone record.
5. Maintaining the spot of light from the laser accurately on the track of a compact disc.
