A collective name by which the most abundant achondritic meteorites, the eucrites, howardites, and diogenites, are often known. Together with the mesosiderites (which are apparently related to the howardites), these meteorite types are also called the eucrite association. The compositional similarities between eucrites, diogenites, and howardites suggest that they originated in a single asteroid, probably Vesta, which shows a eucritic reflectance spectrum on one hemisphere and a diogenitic spectrum on the other.
