A microsatellite mission by the French space agency in collaboration with institutions from the US, Denmark, Japan, the Czech Republic, and Poland to study the mechanisms that produce transient luminous emissions and gamma-ray flashes in the atmosphere above areas experiencing thunderstorms (Taranis was the Gallic god of thunder and lightning). The mission is scheduled to launch in 2019.
