1. A specific range of frequencies used in communications for a definite purpose, such as the longwave band in radio; certain frequencies within the band are assigned to different transmitting stations and the receiver may be tuned to any desired frequency within the band. See also frequency band.
2. A closely spaced group of atomic energy levels. See energy bands.
3. A closely spaced group of molecular energy levels that appear as fluted bands separated by dark spaces in the spectra of compounds. Under higher resolution the bands resolve into fine spectral lines.
