A many-fermion system that, unlike the electrons in ordinary metals, cannot readily be described in terms of quasiparticles. Examples of non-Fermi liquids include Luttinger liquids and high-temperature superconductivity. The theoretical analysis of non-Fermi liquids is more difficult than for ordinary many-fermion systems.
