A monkey belonging to one of the five species of Papio (family Cercopithecidae) that are native to Africa and Asia. Baboons are larger than most monkeys, and have a dog-like muzzle, a short tail, and hairless calluses on their buttocks. They are omnivorous, and live on the ground in open country in hierarchical groups (troops) commonly of about 50 but up to more than 200 individuals.
