A member of one of two species (Daubentonia spp.), found only in Madagascar, that comprise the primate family Daubentoniidae. They are nocturnal, arboreal, have claws rather than nails on all digits except the big toe, and the third digit of each hand is greatly elongated; their incisors are chisel-like, resembling those of rodents, and used for gnawing. They feed on plants, fungi, and insect larvae.
