A wave-powered, autonomous unmanned surface vessel (USV), 3.5 m long and 0.43 m beam, with a mass of 100 kg, developed by the European Space Agency’s Business Incubation Center, at Harwell, UK. At either end, the boat has two pairs of foils mounted on struts, and it has a small thruster. It carries sensors to monitor weather, marine life (it can detect cetacean vocalizations over a long distance), pollution, and the marine environment, and it communicates with orbiting satellites, using a lithium-ion battery that recharges from solar cells. It moves at up to 3 km/h. In March 2018 AutoNaut produced a new range of upgraded and slightly larger USVs.
