A system that provides real-time data from meteorological satellites, such as the European Space Agency's Meteosat series. The transmission, in analogue video format, can be displayed as an image on a computer screen when a satellite is within range of a ground station. APT is derived from the advanced very high-resolution radiometer (AVHRR) system.
APT was used on the Tiros series of satellites launched in 1966 by NASA and the Environmental Science Services Administration.
