An observatory at an altitude of 1150 m on Siding Spring Mountain near Coonabarabran, New South Wales, founded in 1973 and owned and operated by the Australian Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research. Its headquarters are in Epping, NSW. Its instruments are the 3.9-m Anglo-Australian Telescope and the 1.2-m United Kingdom Schmidt Telescope. It was originally known as the Anglo-Australian Observatory and was jointly owned by the UK and Australia, but came under full Australian ownership in 2010.
