Approaching a given value or condition. A straight line that approaches a two-dimensional curve but never actually touches it is said to be asymptotic to the curve.
Philosophy
A line is asymptotic to a curve if the distance between the line and the curve tends to zero as the distance along the curve tends to infinity.
