Absorption and emission lines seen in astronomical spectra arising in the Earth’s atmosphere. In the optical region the most prominent features are the Fraunhofer A band and B band, at 760 nm and 687 nm respectively, both due to molecular oxygen; other features are due to water vapour, carbon dioxide, and various metals.
