An observatory of the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) on Tenerife, Canary Islands, at an altitude of 2390 m, founded in 1959. Its largest telescope is the 1.52-m Carlos Sánchez infrared reflector, opened in 1972. Other telescopes include the 1.5-m GREGOR solar telescope, owned by a consortium of German institutes, which began operation in 2012; STELLA I and II, a pair of 1.2-m robotic telescopes owned and operated by the Astrophysical Institute of Potsdam, Germany, opened in 2007; a 1-m reflector of the Danish Stellar Observations Network Group (SONG), opened 2012; the 0.9-m Franco-Italian Heliographic Telescope for the Study of Solar Magnetism (THEMIS), opened in 1996; the 0.8-m reflector of the IAC (IAC-80), opened in 1991; the 0.7-m Vacuum Tower Telescope (VTT) of the Kiepenheuer Institute of Solar Physics, Germany, opened in 1989; the 0.5-m Mons reflector of the University of Mons, Belgium, opened in 1972; a Solar Laboratory, which began operation in 1976 and now contains six instruments (including a station of the GONG network) devoted to helioseismology, asteroseismology, and planetary transits; and two 0.4-m telescopes of the Las Cumbres Observatory Global Telescope Network opened in 2016.
