A cloth made of a tough translucent synthetic resin. It has been used in spacesuits since the Apollo programme. The space shuttle suits incorporate Gore-Tex, a new version of Teflon cloth, that is stretched into a thin membrane. It is five times more resistant to abrasions and also more resistant to heat and cold.
