A general term applied to the processes of magma-rock reactions. Anatexis and assimilation can be regarded as end-products of the various process of syntexis. These might include fracturing of country rock during intrusion, engulfing of country-rock xenoliths in the magma, and thermal and/or fluid infiltration of xenoliths to initiate melting or solid-state reaction.
