One of two species of antelope (family Bovidae) with white vertical stripes across the body and long, spiral horns carried only by the bulls. The greater kudu (Tragelaphus strepsiceros) stands up to 1.6 m at the shoulder, and bulls have a large mane on the throat. They occur in eastern and southern Africa. The lesser kudu (T. imberbis) stands about 1 m tall at the shoulder and occurs in East Africa.
