A 9th-magnitude red dwarf, 12.8 l.y. away in Pictor; also known as VZ Pictoris. It is a variable of BY Draconis type, fluctuating by a few tenths of a magnitude. It has the second-largest proper motion of any star, 8″.67 per year. It is named after J. C. Kapteyn, who discovered its fast motion in 1897.
