The study of processes and phenomena in the Earth’s upper atmosphere, from the stratosphere into the magnetosphere and interplanetary space. Among the phenomena studied are the airglow, noctilucent clouds, and the formation (and destruction) of ozone. The term is also used to refer to the study of the atmospheres of other planets.
