A pure semiconductor that has equal concentrations of electrons and holes under conditions of thermal equilibrium. Absolute purity is unobtainable in practice and nearly pure materials are termed intrinsic. See also intrinsic conductivity; intrinsic temperature range; extrinsic semiconductor.
