A family of Russian rockets representing modified intercontinental ballistic missiles into launch vehicles. The four-stage, 22.7-metre-tall booster lifts off from a mobile platform, allowing it to be launched from anywhere. Start-1 blasted off from Plesetsk Cosmodrome on 25 March 1993 and successfully delivered an experimental satellite into Earth orbit. Six additional launches have been made between May 2004 and April 2006 with one failure (Start-2, which was a five-stage rocket).
