The stream of interstellar gas and dust that appears to be moving past the Solar System because of the motion of the Sun around the Galaxy. It starts at the heliopause, where the solar wind gives way to the interstellar wind. In 2012 August Voyager 1 became the first spacecraft to pass through the heliopause and encounter the interstellar wind, at a distance of about 121 au from the Sun.
