International Institute of Space Law

Space Exploration

An organization for the development of space law and the study of legal and social-science aspects of space exploration. It was established in 1960 by the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) and is part of the IAF, although it functions autonomously. The IISL's various committees include the Standing Committee on the Status of International Agreements Relating to Activities in Outer Space. It has more individual and institutional members in almost 50 countries. Its permanent secretariat is located at the IAF headquarters in Paris, France.
